About the position

Mastercard is seeking a Director, Chief of Staff for the AI & Data division, a role pivotal in managing the operations of the Chief AI and Data Officer. This position is integral to ensuring that the Chief AI and Data Officer is well-prepared for all engagements, both internal and external. The Chief of Staff will oversee the briefing book process, manage scheduling requests in collaboration with the executive assistant and communications team, and will be responsible for writing memos and conducting research on various topics as needed. The role also involves attending meetings to execute follow-up action items and maintaining a pulse on enterprise-wide AI and Data engagements. In addition to principal management responsibilities, the Chief of Staff will play a crucial role in team engagement. This includes driving effective organization and communication within the team, facilitating connections through leadership meetings and all-hands calls, and providing regular updates to the team. The Chief of Staff will solicit feedback from team members and implement changes to foster a positive and productive culture. The role also encompasses special projects, where the Chief of Staff will enable strategic initiatives and lead taskforces for content creation. This may involve preparing materials for board meetings, executive briefings, and addressing emerging product development topics such as crypto, open banking, and ESG. The Chief of Staff will shepherd the leadership team through various commitments and planning tasks, ensuring that priorities and objectives are met while responding nimbly to the business's urgent needs. Critical leadership capabilities are essential for this role, as the AI & Data organization must drive outcomes at both the enterprise level and within its core businesses. The Chief of Staff will collaborate and influence across the organization, enabling executive stakeholders to effectively promote the collective AI agenda and build relationships that support Mastercard's business objectives. The ideal candidate will possess an entrepreneurial mindset, domain knowledge in AI and data science, and strong analytical and problem-solving skills, all while being able to manage their work in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure Chief AI and Data Officer is prepared for all internal and external engagements
  • Develop and manage briefing book process
  • Partner with executive assistant and Communications to strategically manage scheduling requests
  • Write memos and research topics as needed for Chief AI and Data Officer engagements
  • Attend meetings as backbench participant to execute on follow-up action items
  • Provide forward-looking perspective, think ahead, and maintain pulse and awareness of enterprise-wide AI and Data engagements
  • Drive effective team organization and communication
  • Facilitate connection among the team by organizing leadership meetings, all-hands calls, office hours, etc.
  • Partner with communications advisor to provide regular team-wide internal updates
  • Solicit and implement feedback from the team on a regular basis
  • Enable strategic initiatives and achievement of objectives
  • Lead taskforces and content creation for board meeting materials, executive briefings, and emerging product development topics
  • Shepherd leadership team through cycled commitments and planning tasks
  • Nimbly respond to what the business needs and execute on urgent needs

Requirements

  • Prior experience or coursework in AI and data science
  • Strong stakeholder management and political awareness across teams and levels
  • Ability to analyze and draw conclusions from large and/or complex data sources
  • Capable project manager, able to toggle between strategic and tactical/detail-oriented views
  • Strong technical expertise, including prior experience in artificial intelligence and data science
  • Excellent content/storytelling skills for meetings, emails, and presentations
