About the position

The Director, Chief of Staff for the Enterprise Risk Organization (ERO) at Capital One plays a pivotal role in leading governance and oversight for various senior management committees and Board activities. This position is integral to supporting broader ERO initiatives related to strategy, reporting, and organizational culture. The ideal candidate is a highly motivated risk management professional with exceptional project management, problem-solving, and communication skills. They will partner with senior leaders, think strategically, and drive continuous improvement while delivering innovative solutions. In this role, the Chief of Staff will have the opportunity to engage in a variety of responsibilities that significantly impact the ERO organization. The position offers high visibility across the ERO and the chance to collaborate with senior leaders to create and implement innovative strategies aimed at identifying and mitigating potential risks to the company. The Chief of Staff will lead the strategy and execution of the Executive Risk Committee (ERC) and Technology, Operational, Compliance, and Cyber (TOCC) processes, ensuring effective support for executive leadership. Additionally, the Chief of Staff will oversee the quarterly Integrated Risk Management Report (IRMR) for the Board of Directors, manage ERO inputs for Board meetings, and support the Chief Enterprise Risk Officer (CERO) with various initiatives. This role also involves leading data-driven action plans, enhancing processes and tools, and developing executive-ready presentations for critical regulatory reporting. The Chief of Staff will collaborate with various stakeholders across the organization, including Credit and Financial Risk Management, to ensure alignment on ERO-wide projects and governance processes. The position requires a versatile individual who can manage multiple projects simultaneously, adapt to changing business needs, and maintain high standards of detail and process orientation. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of building collaborative relationships and thrive in a matrixed environment, demonstrating a strong understanding of Capital One's Risk Management organizations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the strategy and execution of the Executive Risk Committee (ERC) and Technology, Operational, Compliance, and Cyber (TOCC) processes.
  • Oversee the quarterly Integrated Risk Management Report (IRMR) for the Board of Directors and manage ERO inputs for Board meetings.
  • Support the Chief Enterprise Risk Officer (CERO) with various initiatives and regulatory reporting.
  • Lead data-driven ERO Imperatives action plan and prioritize ongoing work to ensure progress on key initiatives.
  • Develop and enhance processes, tools, templates, and job aids for continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Create executive-ready presentations and materials for dual Chief Risk Officer attestation and other regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with Credit and Financial Risk Management and other ERO leads on ERO-wide projects and governance processes.
  • Provide ad-hoc consulting or operational support for major chief of staff projects or organizational needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or military experience.
  • At least 5 years of experience in project management or process management.
  • At least 3 years of experience in staff management or staff training.
  • At least 3 years of experience in organizational development or performance development.
  • At least 2 years of experience in budget management.
  • At least 2 years in strategy consulting or advisory services.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) or Project Management Professional (PMP) Designation.
  • Experience serving in a Chief of Staff or critical Project Management role in a large, complex, and matrix organization.
  • At least 4 years of experience in Communications planning and development.
  • At least 4 years of experience supporting senior executives and leadership.
  • At least 4 years of experience in HR, associate experience, or associate engagement roles.
