About the position

The Director-Civil Engineering and Projects is responsible for overseeing terminal design, civil works, and traffic-related projects within the global Carrix organization. This leadership role requires collaboration with corporate colleagues and union members to enhance safety, optimize financial performance, and advance the company's environmental and social goals. The position reports directly to the Vice President, Chief Engineer, and emphasizes a team-oriented approach to project management and operational excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Review performance against operating plans and standards; manage and provide feedback to subordinates and colleagues on departmental performance vs. target goals.
  • Identify training needs, initiate development of subordinates, and recommend effective personnel actions.
  • Partner with procurement to select qualified and cost-efficient vendors for services and equipment.
  • Establish relationships with key vendors and customers to assist in achieving key goals.
  • Create systems and processes for proper orientation and on-the-job training for subordinates, ensuring clarity in authority and responsibility for each position.
  • Identify and implement training and developmental activities for subordinates and colleagues.
  • Lead with a 'Safety First' attitude within the department and across the organization.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Engineering or related field and licensed Professional Engineer or equivalent registration.
  • MBA or other graduate-level college degree is a plus.
  • Experience managing global operations in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong operational and tactical skills for analyzing operations and streamlining procedures.
  • Strategic perspective to anticipate future issues and trends.
  • Maritime and transportation-related experience is a major plus.
  • Military experience is a plus.
  • Hands-on experience in logistics, mechanics, or workshop management is a plus.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus.
  • High energy, positive attitude, and servant leadership style.
  • Critical thinking, communication, and interpersonal skills are required.
  • Well-developed business acumen and sound business judgment.
