About the position

The Director, Climate Risk (internal title: Senior Associate) at Montrose Environmental Group plays a pivotal role in enhancing and broadening the services offered by the company through its Sustainability and Climate Advisory (SCA) team. As organizations face increasing pressure to understand and address climate risks, opportunities, and impacts, this position is designed to collaborate closely with the VP of Sustainability and Climate Advisory and the entire SCA team. The Director will be responsible for developing, marketing, and delivering climate risk services and solutions to clients, ensuring that Montrose remains at the forefront of environmental consulting. This role encompasses a blend of business development, service development, project management, and staff development. The Director will engage directly with clients, leveraging a dedicated team of environmental sustainability professionals to provide tailored solutions. The ideal candidate should possess a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience, particularly in sustainability and climate consulting for industrial clients in sectors such as oil and gas, chemicals, power, and manufacturing. A key aspect of this role is the ability to sell climate risk services and expand the service line effectively. In this position, the Director will actively develop new climate-risk-related business through existing client relationships, networking, and thought leadership. They will support the development of climate risk services and solutions, ensuring alignment with international standards such as the International Finance Reporting Standards (IFRS) Foundation's S2 Climate-related Disclosures standard and the recommendations of the Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD). The Director will also manage project teams to ensure successful and profitable delivery of client projects, lead proposal development, and provide coaching and training to team members. Additionally, they will work closely with other team members focused on climate impact and broader sustainability advisory to identify synergies and jointly develop client opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Develop new climate-risk-related business through existing client relationships and networking.
  • Support the development of climate risk services and solutions.
  • Design and lead projects to help clients identify, assess, manage, and quantify the financial impact of climate-related risks and opportunities.
  • Manage project teams to ensure successful and profitable delivery of client projects.
  • Lead proposal development, including establishing scopes, schedules, and budgets.
  • Provide coaching and training to team members to support service delivery.
  • Collaborate with team members focused on climate impact and broader sustainability advisory to identify synergies.
  • Identify and attend key events for sponsorship and brand exposure.
  • Work with Marketing to establish focused campaigns to develop new leads.
  • Collaborate with other Montrose Lines of Business to identify cross-selling opportunities.

Requirements

  • At least 10 years of relevant experience in sustainability and climate consulting.
  • Experience advising companies on the implementation of TCFD recommendations.
  • Ability to identify climate-related risks and assess business impacts through scenario analysis.
  • Experience in establishing oversight and governance around climate risk.
  • Strong business development skills to sell climate risk services and expand service lines.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working with industrial clients in sectors such as oil and gas, chemicals, power, and manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with International Finance Reporting Standards (IFRS) Foundation's S2 Climate-related Disclosures standard.
