About the position

The Director Cloud Product Owner at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) is a pivotal role responsible for defining and leading the enterprise cloud strategy as part of CHOP's Digital Transformation initiative. This position focuses on leveraging cloud technologies to enhance patient care, streamline operations, and support transformative research. The Director will oversee cloud engineering efforts, establish operational excellence standards, and ensure effective collaboration with various stakeholders to maximize the value of cloud solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with business, research, and clinical stakeholders to identify opportunities to leverage cloud technologies.
  • Develop a cloud strategy and roadmap aligned with CHOP's digital aspirations.
  • Drive end-to-end development efforts for high-quality, scalable cloud technology solutions.
  • Establish technological prerequisites for operational excellence of cloud solutions.
  • Define KPIs and operational scorecards to monitor cloud system performance.
  • Provide level 3 escalation for problem resolution requiring engineering expertise.
  • Define architectural standards for provisioning and usage of cloud resources.
  • Evaluate and select key DevSecOps capabilities for broader technology adoption.
  • Conduct cloud economic assessments to manage resources effectively.
  • Lead solution design for complex business systems using cloud technologies.
  • Own the relationship with cloud service providers and assess all CHOP work with them.
  • Develop a long-term FinOps practice for managing cloud expenditure.
  • Lead a high-performing cloud engineering team and establish a Community of Practice.
  • Manage daily activities including budgeting, planning, and performance metrics.
  • Establish the Cloud Center of Excellence for governance and adoption of cloud technologies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer/Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a similar field.
  • Master's Degree in Computer Science, Informatics, Information Systems, Economics, Mathematics, or another quantitative field (preferred).
  • At least five years of experience in a management role leading enterprise cloud teams.
  • AWS Cloud Architect Certification within 3 months of hire (required).
  • Azure Solutions Architect Expert within 3 months of hire (required).
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and experience in supervision.
  • Outstanding verbal, written, presentation, and data storytelling skills.
  • Ability to simplify complex ideas for non-technical audiences.
  • Strong goal-setting and execution skills with clear success metrics.
  • Experience in multi-cloud enterprise environments, particularly AWS and Azure.
  • Expert-level understanding of DevSecOps principles and infrastructure-as-code.

Nice-to-haves

  • Healthcare and/or life-sciences experience.
  • Experience with container technologies including Kubernetes.
  • Familiarity with JSON, Python, YAML, and Java.
