About the position

The Director of Communications and Marketing for Student Affairs at the University of Rhode Island is a pivotal role responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive strategic communications and marketing program. This position works closely with the Vice President of Student Affairs and the Student Affairs leadership team, as well as the University's External Relations and Communications team, to enhance the image and reputation of both the Division of Student Affairs and the University as a whole. The Director will lead a professional staff dedicated to marketing and communications, ensuring that best practices in branding, social media, print and digital media, and crisis communication are adhered to across the division. In this role, the Director will oversee all internal and external communications, marketing, and public relations activities, ensuring a centralized approach that promotes coordination and integration within the division. The Director will collaborate with department leaders and staff to define objectives and strategies, executing tactics that support the branding, marketing, and communication efforts of the department. As a member of the Vice President's leadership team, the Director will also serve as a liaison to the External Relations and Communications team, ensuring that all efforts align with the University's Strategic Plan. This full-time, permanent position is located on the Kingston Campus and offers a salary range of $78,000 to $88,000, commensurate with education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive strategic communications and marketing program for the Division of Student Affairs.
  • Collaborate with the Vice President of Student Affairs and the Student Affairs leadership team to enhance the division's image and reputation.
  • Direct professional staff in marketing and communications best practices, including branding, social media, and crisis communication.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, public relations, or a related field.
  • Significant experience in communications and marketing, preferably in a higher education setting.
  • Proven leadership skills and experience managing a team.
  • Strong understanding of branding, social media, and digital marketing strategies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
