About the position

The Director of Communications at Duke Health is responsible for providing strategic and day-to-day oversight of internal communications for the Duke Health Integrated Practice (DHIP). This role involves supervising a Senior Communications Specialist and developing communication strategies that align with business objectives. The Director will monitor the effectiveness of communication plans and collaborate with various stakeholders to ensure cohesive messaging across the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Assess and respond to communications needs and develop communication strategies, campaigns, and tactics for Duke Health Integrated Practice in partnership with DHIP Senior Leadership teams.
  • Translate communication needs and corresponding research and analytics into appropriate communication strategies, campaigns, and tactics.
  • Serve as a senior communications advisor for DHIP Senior Leadership teams.
  • Serve as primary liaison for clinical department communicators to support two-way communication models and integration of key strategic initiatives.
  • Draft executive messages and scripts for leaders to support and amplify commitment to Duke Health's mission, vision, and values.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with DHIP administrators, directors, and clinical staff to support entity culture and collaboration.
  • Lead the creation of communication materials and campaigns to support tactical implementation of communication strategies.
  • Collaborate with DUHS Communications to ensure continuity and integration with Duke Health's internal communications channels.
  • Plan, edit and write content for a variety of internal communications mediums, including the intranet, email, and social media.
  • Lead the concepting, planning and execution of communications campaigns including print, digital and video within target budget and timelines.
  • Support face-to-face and virtual meetings for leadership and team members, including town halls, summits, and in-person events.
  • Ensure consistency and alignment with Duke Health messaging across internal channels and apply brand design standards and positioning to communications material.
  • Work collaboratively with all clinical communicators to maximize the effectiveness of communications projects and participate on appropriate DUHS communicator committees.
  • Use analytics to track results and report to Senior Leadership teams on trends and opportunities.
  • Provide direct supervision, leadership, and mentorship to the DHIP communications team.
  • Represent DHIP voice within the broader DUHS communications team to amplify successes and opportunities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, marketing, or a related field is required.
  • Four years of related experience in communications, marketing communications, or marketing with demonstrated experience in driving the implementation of strategic communications plans and tactics.
  • Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Demonstrates skill in understanding cultural differences and a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Nice-to-haves

  • Second language proficiency is preferred, but not required.
