About the position

The Director, Communications at Walgreens Pharmacy is responsible for leading the development and execution of comprehensive communications strategies that support Walgreens' core pharmacy business. This role involves overseeing a communications team, managing media relations, and ensuring effective messaging for key stakeholders, including executives and the public.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and executes comprehensive communications plans that align with business objectives.
  • Works closely with senior level executives, providing expert communications counsel and creating/driving executive visibility plans and communications.
  • Manages and strengthens top tier national and trade media relationships.
  • Maintains knowledge of company and external events or issues to position Walgreens favorably with stakeholders.
  • Collaborates in the development and implementation of an annual strategy and plan that supports key company activities and business objectives.
  • Develops and implements communications strategies on complex business initiatives, managing timelines and project deadlines.
  • Acts as a representative for Communications to effectively communicate company positions and goals to all audiences.
  • Identifies target audiences for messaging and designs engaging communications.
  • Responsible for coaching, managing, mentoring, and developing direct reports.
  • Collaborates with leaders to identify engaging stories and messages that present Walgreens as an employer of choice.
  • Oversees agency scopes of work and budgets.
  • Leads national consumer-facing external campaigns from design to implementation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and at least 6 years of experience developing, executing and integrating communications plans, or a High School Diploma/GED and at least 9 years of experience in the same area.
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams.
  • Experience providing counsel, influence, and challenge to business leaders' thinking.
  • Experience writing and editing in AP style.
  • Experience leading and completing multiple projects on deadline.
  • Experience working with change management methodologies.
  • At least 2 years of experience contributing to financial decisions in the workplace.
  • At least 3 years of direct leadership, indirect leadership, and/or cross-functional team leadership.
