About the position

The Director of the Community Service Learning Center (CSLC) at East Carolina University's School of Dental Medicine is a full-time faculty position responsible for overseeing educational and clinical activities while providing general dentistry services in underserved communities. This role involves collaboration with various departments and external healthcare organizations to enhance dental education and care delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and supervision of all educational and clinical activities in the CSLC.
  • Deliver a full range of general dentistry services to patients.
  • Oversee clinical operations and mentor dental students and AEGD residents.
  • Establish and maintain clinical protocols consistent with the standard of care.
  • Collaborate with local, state, and regional healthcare organizations.
  • Guide patient referrals and follow-up with appropriate personnel.
  • Work with faculty to design and maintain quality/performance standards for patient care.
  • Develop and execute the annual budget for the CSLC to ensure financial sustainability.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
  • Participate in faculty meetings and dental school activities.

Requirements

  • Earned Doctorate in Dental Medicine or Dental Surgery.
  • Demonstrated administrative experience in a dental educational environment.
  • Record of teaching effectiveness commensurate with the title of Assistant or Associate Professor.
  • Ability to interact effectively with faculty members, administrators, and students.
  • Commitment to higher education and community service.
  • NC dental license.

Nice-to-haves

  • Advanced education in dentistry (preferably AEGD, GPR, or military comprehensive dentistry residency).
  • Five years' experience in general dentistry and/or a dental educational environment.
  • Experience in providing dental treatment for underserved populations.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with organizations and individuals.
  • Experience in building teams to identify problems and develop solutions.
