About the position

The Director, Contracting & Strategic Sourcing at the University of Miami is responsible for managing all phases of contract development for the UHealth Medical Campus. This role involves drafting, negotiating, and overseeing a wide range of commercial contracts, including Business Associate Agreements and HIPAA governed agreements. The director provides strategic advice to internal clients, trains supply chain staff on contract negotiation, and acts as a point of escalation for risk assessments.

Responsibilities

  • Drafts, analyzes, and negotiates a broad range of agreements for purchase of goods and services across the UM enterprise.
  • Conducts in-depth analysis of contract requirements, special provisions, and terms and conditions to ensure compliance with appropriate laws, regulations, and enterprise-wide policies.
  • Serves as an internal escalation point for any contract clause that deviates from University policy.
  • Advises and counsels internal clients across the enterprise and conveys risk assessments to internal stakeholders.
  • Develops, maintains, and revises supply chain contract templates and guidelines to ensure uniform practices throughout the department.
  • Reviews, updates, and maintains contract documentation in accordance with University policies.
  • Oversees maintenance of contract database and serves as point person on legacy data cleanup efforts.
  • Acts as UHealth Supply Chain's and Privacy's project lead and subject matter expert for Conga (contract administration tool).
  • Acts as administrator and subject matter expert for DocuSign (signature escalation tool) for Supply Chain Services, Privacy, and two other internal departments.
  • Serves as Supply Chain lead for internal audit directives.
  • Partners with the General Counsel's Office to support contract settlements and disputes.
  • Works with other contracting units to ensure consistent and up-to-date contract clauses systemwide.
  • Manages contract administration team including attorneys and contract specialists.
  • Reviews and provides guidance to contracting staff on privacy law issues in underlying agreements.
  • Serves as University's subject matter expert on HIPAA and oversees contract administration and governance for BAAs, HITECH Addendums and other HIPAA governed agreements.
  • Facilitates record production for external audits to assist Compliance and General Counsel's Office.

Requirements

  • J.D. from an ABA accredited law school
  • Certification in relevant specialty or field
  • Licensed to practice law in Florida preferred
  • Minimum 5 years relevant experience
  • Strong and demonstrable skill in negotiating and understanding contract provisions and risk allocation
  • Strong analytical and reasoning skills
  • Ability to multi-task and work effectively and efficiently to meet deadlines in a dynamic and fast-paced environment
  • Excellent, professional written and verbal English skills
  • Possesses a positive, problem-solving attitude and flexibility
  • Discreet and able to maintain strict confidence concerning sensitive matters and transactions
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Able to work independently with minimal direction
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Ability to analyze and improve business processes
  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Adobe
  • Strong grasp of laws and regulations impacting UM's healthcare and academic operations.
