About the position

As a Director of Governance within the Credit & Fraud Risk (CFR) Control Management Governance team, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the operational risk and controls strategy for our organization. This position requires a strategic leader who can effectively manage a diverse team of high-performing professionals, ensuring that control management is seamlessly integrated into our daily operations. You will collaborate extensively with various business units, functional areas, and geographies to promote a culture of risk awareness and compliance with our enterprise Operational Risk Management programs. Your responsibilities will include facilitating the understanding and application of the risk governance framework across business units through regular communication and training initiatives. You will be tasked with developing comprehensive training programs that align with our Operational Risk Management objectives, ensuring that all employees are equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to navigate the complexities of operational risk. Additionally, you will establish processes to monitor the integration of regulatory changes into our operational risk framework, ensuring that our practices remain compliant and effective. As a key leader in the organization, you will share insights and best practices across the enterprise, fostering a collaborative environment where knowledge is shared, and continuous improvement is encouraged. Your role will be instrumental in driving the success of our risk management initiatives, ultimately contributing to the overall growth and stability of American Express. Responsibilities

  • Lead a diverse team focused on operational risk management and control governance.
  • Facilitate understanding and use of the risk governance framework across business units.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive training initiatives aligned with Operational Risk Management.
  • Establish processes to integrate regulatory changes into the Operational Risk framework.
  • Share insights and best practices across the enterprise to promote a culture of risk awareness.

Requirements

  • 6 years of experience in operational risk management, preferably within Risk or Internal Audit functions.
  • Excellent project management, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Expertise in process governance and decision-making processes.
  • Experience in the financial services industry.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Business, Risk Management, or related field; advanced degrees or certifications are advantageous.
  • Experience in translating operational risk strategy into execution guidelines.
  • Experience in tracking and identifying issues with Key Risk Indicator (KRI) limits.
  • Experience in implementing operational risk governance frameworks.
