About the position

The Director of Creative Development at Legendary Entertainment is a pivotal role responsible for identifying, developing, and overseeing potential feature film projects. This position requires a comprehensive understanding of the film industry, a keen eye for storytelling, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. The Director will evaluate various scripts, source materials, and project drafts, providing creative input and collaborating with stakeholders to ensure the successful development of high-quality films. Reporting directly to the Head of Film, the Director will play a crucial role in shaping the creative direction of Legendary's film offerings. In this role, the Director will read and evaluate spec scripts, sample scripts, and source materials such as books, articles, and video games for project acquisition and development. They will write coverage for the creative affairs department, analyze content catalogs, and provide feedback on project drafts. The Director will also conduct thorough research to support projects, manage submissions logs, and collaborate with directors, writers, and producers to align the creative vision of projects. Staying updated with industry trends and emerging talents is essential for identifying potential opportunities for Legendary. Additionally, the Director will mentor junior team members, build relationships within the creative community, and pitch projects for internal development consideration. They will ensure that all projects align with Legendary's vision and brand, acting as a liaison between various departments to streamline communication and information flow. This role is integral to maintaining Legendary's reputation for delivering high-quality, commercially successful films.

Responsibilities

  • Read and evaluate spec scripts, sample scripts, directing samples, and source material for project acquisition and development consideration.
  • Write up coverage for the creative affairs department's consideration in a timely fashion.
  • Analyze libraries and content catalogs that Legendary is considering acquiring.
  • Read and analyze project drafts; perform draft comparisons; occasionally craft beat sheets and scene breakdowns.
  • Work with creative executives to generate notes and feedback on project drafts.
  • Conduct thorough research to support Legendary projects when required.
  • Oversee and manage the submissions log, ensuring accurate and prompt data input from assistants.
  • Collaborate with directors, writers, and producers to align the creative vision of projects.
  • Stay updated with industry trends and emerging talents to identify potential opportunities for Legendary.
  • Mentor and guide junior creative team members and assistants.
  • Build and maintain relationships with outside sources, the creative community, and internal creative counterparts.
  • Identify talent through traditional and non-traditional research methods, inclusive of new and emerging technologies.
  • Pitch projects internally for development consideration.
  • Develop and shadow projects under the guidance of senior executives.
  • Act as liaison between various departments to streamline the flow of information.
  • Ensure projects align with Legendary's vision and brand.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Film, Media, or a related field.
  • Minimum 3-5 years' experience as a Creative Executive in theatrical film development and streaming.
  • In-depth experience working with talent (writers, directors, producers, actors).
  • Ability to assess strong storylines and marketability.
  • Understanding of global and multicultural audiences and how to adapt content to appeal to a wide audience.
  • Deep understanding of the film development process and industry trends.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with industry professionals.
  • Experience in managing and mentoring creative teams.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to be resourceful and proactive in problem-solving.
  • Excellent organizational skills with a strong attention to detail.
  • Strong multitasking, time-management, and prioritization skills.
