About the position

The Director of Credit Risk Analysis at Discover Financial Services is responsible for leading teams that develop and enhance credit management strategies and loss forecasts. This role involves assessing credit card strategies across the credit life cycle, providing insights to influence credit strategy changes, and ensuring effective governance in credit decision-making. The position emphasizes creating a culture of risk management and accountability while driving business results through effective leadership and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage teams assessing and enhancing credit management strategies and loss forecasts.
  • Oversee the assessment of credit card strategies across the credit life cycle, including acquisitions, pricing, collections, and marketing.
  • Provide ongoing performance assessments of credit strategies relative to business expectations and remediate under-performance.
  • Identify emerging risks from external and internal sources and generate insights for credit strategy adjustments.
  • Participate as a voting member in Governance credit sub-committees to govern credit decisions and performance updates.
  • Guide decision-making on critical business components such as credit losses and profit.
  • Identify risk, growth, and business opportunities and lead the team to execute on them.
  • Develop short and long-term plans for Credit teams aligned with business results.
  • Ensure effective processes and systems are in place for achieving results and developing people.
  • Address escalated concerns and ensure resolution to root causes.
  • Create a culture of continuous improvement for business outcomes and work processes.
  • Influence organizational culture and promote change to enhance decision-making processes.
  • Coach and develop technical, managerial, and leadership skills of direct reports.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Social Sciences, Business Administration, Statistics, Finance, Economics, Engineering, or related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in analytics, consulting, financial services, or related fields.
