About the position

The Director of Data Governance is responsible for creating and driving the overall strategy and requirements for all data domains within the business unit. This role involves providing oversight and leadership to the definition, implementation, maintenance, and enforcement of data standards. The Director will oversee the data governance process, which includes managing cross-functional data councils and ensuring that data integrity and quality are maintained across the organization. This position plays a critical role in understanding and communicating the downstream implications of data changes, working closely with functional and IT leaders to identify optimal solutions. Additionally, the Director will identify and implement industry standards and best practices for data governance and management, ensuring that the organization adheres to these standards. The Director will also be responsible for leading the change process for data, which includes controls, oversight, approval, communication, and documentation. Regular data audits and quality reporting will fall under the purview of this role, as the Director owns the data quality function. Participation in the organization’s formal Software Development Life Cycle Process team is also expected, along with performing other job-related duties as assigned. This position requires a strategic mindset, as problems are typically defined by higher-level leadership and solutions require thorough analysis and investigation. The Director will decide how to achieve planned results within the organization’s plans, policies, and guidelines, and may set or change plans/goals within their respective department or area.

Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership regarding the change process for data, including controls, oversight, approval, communication, and documentation.
  • Plays a critical role in understanding and communicating the downstream implications of data changes and works with functional and IT leaders to identify optimal solutions.
  • Identifies and implements industry standards and best practices for data governance and management.
  • Ensures data integrity and quality and owns the data quality function including regular data audits and quality reporting.
  • Participates in the organization's formal Software Development Life Cycle Process team.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Typically requires BS/BA in a related discipline.
  • Generally 9+ years of experience in a related field, including several years in a management/supervisory capacity.
  • Ability to sell data strategy.
  • SAP - Working Knowledge or user experience.
  • Governance background - manage data & standards (could be customer, financials, retail).
  • Program management experience.
  • Architecture design or engineering knowledge.
  • AI experience desired.
