About the position

The Director, Data Governance is responsible for overseeing and developing data governance processes, standards, and policies to enhance data practices within Mastercard. This role involves creating and supporting a data stewardship program, deploying data governance capabilities, and ensuring compliance with established data standards. The position requires collaboration with data owners and various teams to manage data governance effectively and promote data literacy across the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a data governance process and assist in the formation of an enterprise data governance program for Mastercard.
  • Partner with data owners to create an enterprise data stewardship practice to manage data standards and best practices.
  • Identify control points and develop control structures for governance processes in collaboration with the Data Strategy and Management Team.
  • Manage a work queue of issues for new and ongoing efforts, escalating data issues to senior executive management as needed.
  • Provide governance subject matter expertise across projects and the data stewardship community to ensure proper data governance.
  • Facilitate forums to communicate governance practices and principles to improve data literacy and compliance.
  • Act as a data-driven change agent, advocating for the importance of preserving Mastercard's data assets.

Requirements

  • Familiarity with industry best practices for data governance.
  • Superior understanding of Mastercard data sets (Transaction, Consumer, etc.).
  • Knowledge of driving organizational change for data governance.
  • Experience in establishing and enforcing standards, processes, policies, and procedures to support data quality and management.
  • Ability to understand complex information product constructs, databases, and data structures.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with proven experience in relationship building and influencing.
  • Highly motivated self-starter with the ability to multi-task between strategic and tactical work.
  • Strong written, presentation, and verbal communication skills.
