About the position

The Director of Data Governance at HD Supply is responsible for creating and driving the overall strategy and requirements for all data domains within the business unit. This role involves providing oversight and leadership to the definition, implementation, maintenance, and enforcement of data standards across the organization. The Director will oversee the data governance process, which includes managing cross-functional data councils and ensuring that data integrity and quality are maintained. This position plays a critical role in understanding and communicating the downstream implications of data changes, working closely with functional and IT leaders to identify optimal solutions. In addition to overseeing data governance, the Director will identify and implement industry standards and best practices for data governance and management. This includes owning the data quality function, conducting regular data audits, and generating quality reporting. The Director will also participate in the organization's formal Software Development Life Cycle Process team, ensuring that data governance is integrated into all aspects of software development. The role requires a strong background in governance, program management, and architecture design or engineering knowledge, along with the ability to sell data strategy effectively. The work environment is typically comfortable, although there may be regular exposure to factors causing moderate physical discomfort, such as dust, fumes, or odors. Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position, with frequent opportunities to move about. Overnight travel is expected to be less than 10% of the time. The position requires a BS/BA in a related discipline and generally 9+ years of experience in a related field, including several years in a management or supervisory capacity.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees the data governance process, including managing the cross-functional data councils.
  • Provides leadership regarding the change process for data, including controls, oversight, approval, communication, and documentation.
  • Plays a critical role in understanding and communicating the downstream implications of data changes and works with functional and IT leaders to identify optimal solutions.
  • Identifies and implements industry standards and best practices for data governance and management.
  • Ensures data integrity and quality and owns the data quality function including regular data audits and quality reporting.
  • Participates in the organization's formal Software Development Life Cycle Process team.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Typically requires BS/BA in a related discipline.
  • Generally 9+ years of experience in a related field, including several years in a management/supervisory capacity.
  • Ability to sell data strategy.
  • Working knowledge or user experience with SAP.
  • Governance background to manage data and standards (could be customer, financials, retail).
  • Program management experience.
  • Architecture design or engineering knowledge.
  • AI experience desired.
