About the position

The Director of Data Science - Inventory Management and Supply Chain Operations will lead the development of predictive models to enhance Sysco's analytics capabilities. This role involves hands-on technical development of analytics solutions and coaching a team of data scientists to drive business insights and support key functional areas such as pricing, merchandising, and supply chain operations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the technical development of an industry-leading predictive analytics portfolio in support of key functional & business priorities.
  • Work with VPs and Sr Directors to frame business opportunities and develop appropriate analytic strategies.
  • Implement data science models and visualizations using Python, Tableau, and open source libraries.
  • Manage, attract, coach, retain, and motivate a world-class team of scientists and engineers.
  • Lead multiple projects simultaneously and assist in team resource planning.
  • Perform regular code reviews and provide feedback on coding standards to junior data scientists.
  • Design and execute experiments to validate solutions during product rollout and present results to leadership.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive business results through various use cases.
  • Work with technology teams on data integration to improve data assets for customer-centric initiatives.
  • Research industry-leading analytics practices and recommend continuous improvement opportunities for Sysco.
  • Represent Sysco in industry events.

Requirements

  • Doctoral degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience (PhD + 5 years, Master's + 7 years, Bachelor's + 10 years).
  • 5+ years of experience in management consulting, strategy, or analytics.
  • Strong software design and OOP fundamentals.
  • Demonstrated experience using machine learning algorithms in a commercial setting.
  • High proficiency in statistical packages and quantitative analytics.
  • Proficiency in SQL or NoSQL database environments.
  • 4+ years of experience with scientific scripting languages (e.g., Python) and/or object-oriented programming (e.g., C++, Java).
  • 5+ years of experience with Bayesian statistics, regression analysis, supervised learning, unsupervised learning, or time series analysis.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in CPG, Retail, and/or Foodservice.
  • Experience with Agile Software Development.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary range of $168K - $213K per year.
