About the position

As the Director, Data Services Architect at BlackRock, you will play a pivotal role in the evolution of the Aladdin Studio platform, which is integral to our data ecosystem. The Aladdin platform is a leading investment management solution that combines financial services with cutting-edge technology, managing over USD $7 trillion in assets. The Aladdin Data team is responsible for maintaining a robust data platform that ensures high-quality, consistent data for various users, including investors and data scientists. Your primary focus will be on enabling citizen developers and data consumers to build directly on the Aladdin Platform, enhancing their ability to create financial applications and access valuable data insights. In this role, you will collaborate with functional squad leads, product managers, and the Enterprise Architecture team to design, document, and implement a reference architecture for the Studio platform. Your expertise in data management, discovery, and consumption will be crucial as you work to modernize and improve platform performance and scalability. You will be involved in all stages of project development, from inception to deployment, ensuring that the platform meets the evolving needs of our users. As a senior technical leader, you will also align with the Enterprise Architecture team to establish standards and best practices for APIs, data services, and user experience. Your hands-on experience in building scalable, resilient, cloud-native applications in regulated environments will be essential for delivering complex, enterprise-wide data solutions that prioritize stability while enabling rapid development by adjacent engineers. Responsibilities

• Architect, develop, deploy, and maintain studio products and services.
• Collaborate with program and product managers to expand product offerings based on business demands.
• Drive user engagement and adoption of the platform while modernizing and improving performance and scalability.
• Work across Aladdin Data and with the Enterprise Architecture team to align on standards and evolve best practices for APIs, data services, and user experience.
• Mentor and educate engineers and operational teams on technical architecture.

Requirements

• BA/BS in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
• Expert level skills with 10+ years of experience on a range of languages and platforms (Java, Python, C++, Golang).
• Significant expertise working on data consumption, discovery, or delivery platforms.
• Experience building scalable, distributed systems in enterprise environments.
• Demonstrated ability in technical architecture, developing technical design, documentation standards, and technology selection frameworks.
• Broad awareness of the technical landscape with specific knowledge of modern data platforms and cloud-native infrastructure.
• Experience working with a global team across multiple time zones.
• Strong opinions on building scalable, testable web applications with a focus on repeatability and code quality.
• Excellent communication skills with experience working directly with clients and managing senior stakeholders.
