About the position

The Director of Development for the Colleges of Business Administration (CBA) and Science and Engineering (CS&E) at Central Michigan University is responsible for leading and managing fundraising efforts to support the colleges' annual and major gift operations. This role involves developing strategies to achieve fundraising goals, coordinating with a development team, and engaging with donors to cultivate relationships and secure funding. The Director is expected to raise upwards of $2,500,000 annually and will work closely with university leadership and development colleagues to promote the colleges' activities and research.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of upwards of 200 donors and prospects utilizing the university's Advancement CRM.
  • Engage and build relationships with current donors and prospects with leadership major gift potential.
  • Identify and launch initiatives that drive donations toward strategic priorities.
  • Leverage social media and virtual communication tools to build relationships with constituents.
  • Develop qualification and cultivation strategies and solicitation plans for assigned prospects.
  • Meet deadlines and follow standard operating administrative protocols.
  • Stay current with research, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship best practices.
  • Remain knowledgeable of current events throughout the university and communities served.
  • Leverage volunteer structures to assist with fundraising activities.
  • Develop, implement, and administer specific development efforts to support the priorities of the Colleges of Business Administration and Science and Engineering.
  • Track and report progress using specific metrics and business plans.
  • Annually meet or exceed goals set forth by the Vice President of Advancement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Six years of professional experience in sales, marketing, fundraising, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated successful and progressively responsible relationship development experience in fundraising, sales, customer service, and/or alumni/donor relations.
  • Ability to make compelling direct, face-to-face solicitations and assist other staff with their solicitation plans.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and persuasive verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven track record of working independently and as part of a team while inspiring trust and confidence.
  • Ability to handle competing priorities and manage projects effectively.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft e-mail, Excel, Word, and online applications.
  • Valid driver's license or ability to obtain one.
  • Ability to meet travel requirements, including air and vehicle travel.
  • Ability to lift and carry files and promotional materials.
  • Willingness to work evening and/or weekend hours as necessary.

  • Experience in proposal development and/or grant writing.
  • Experience with prospect relationship development/management.
  • Fundraising experience closing major gifts of $100,000 and more.
  • Experience working with academic and administration leadership.
  • Ability to plan and execute a fundraising project from conception to realization.
  • Demonstrated ability to create and maintain relationships with a constituent base.
  • Knowledge of charitable giving regulations and various gift vehicles.
  • Proficient in using data to develop performance measurements.
