About the position

The Director, Digital Marketing Experience at the Illinois Institute of Technology is a pivotal role that reports directly to the AVP of Marketing and Communications. This position is responsible for leading the web services team, which consists of four members, and plays a crucial role in aligning the web services team's efforts with the marketing goals of the university. The director will oversee the development, management, and maintenance of the university's primary websites, ensuring they are strategically important and effectively serve the needs of the institution. This includes developing the architecture of websites and applications, administering the marketing cloud, and providing support to end users. As the lead web developer, the director must possess advanced knowledge of modern standards-based web technologies and demonstrate the ability to learn quickly, manage project requirements, and stay updated on current technologies. Exceptional communication and problem-solving skills are essential for this role, as the director will frequently interact with internal stakeholders to gather and interpret marketing and business requirements. The ability to translate these requirements into technical solutions is critical for achieving the strategic goals of the Office of Marketing and Communications. The director will also be responsible for providing high levels of customer service, primarily to colleagues within the marketing and communications team, as well as to partners and clients across the university. This includes managing support requests through a ticketing system and occasionally liaising with external vendors. The position requires a strong educational background, with a Bachelor's Degree in computer science or a related field being mandatory, and a Master's Degree preferred. Candidates should have at least 5 years of experience in Drupal site development and 7 years in web development. The director will supervise the web services team, assist with vendor contract discussions, and ensure the successful execution of web projects that enhance the university's online presence.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the development, management, and maintenance of the university's primary websites.
  • Serve as the senior Drupal architect and oversee all other web platforms, including Google sites and blogs.
  • Evaluate and develop custom Drupal modules or features as needed.
  • Manage code updates, testing, security, and production tag deployments of websites and applications in Acquia Cloud.
  • Oversee the development and relaunch of the optimized university website, including leading the RFP process with outside vendors.
  • Develop an employee portal and collaborate with marketing colleagues to analyze site analytics and SEO for improved usability and visibility.
  • Manage the marketing and communications web services staff, defining developer tasks and reviewing code quality.
  • Act as the primary technical administrator for platforms such as Salesforce and other CRM systems.
  • Provide Tier III support and training for users when needed, including content requests and CMS user management.
  • Research, evaluate, and recommend appropriate technologies or solutions for the marketing office.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in computer science or an information technology related field required.
  • Master's Degree in a related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in Drupal site development.
  • 7+ years of experience in the field of web development.
  • Advanced working knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, SQL Databases, Git version control, and developer workflows.
  • Experience with Drupal 7 & 8 development and site building, JS frameworks/libraries, responsive web design, and cross-browser CSS/layout.
  • Familiarity with analytics tools, SEO techniques, social media integration, email design limitations, WordPress, web graphic formats, and Photoshop.
  • Ability to learn, adapt, and demonstrate new skills while working as part of a larger team.
