About the position

The Director of Digital Marketing at the Metropolitan Opera is a pivotal role that supports the Senior Director of Sales & Marketing by serving as the primary digital marketing strategist. This position is responsible for creating a cohesive and impactful brand presence across various digital channels, enhancing audience engagement, and aligning digital strategies with marketing objectives. The role involves long-term digital planning, project management, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure consistency in organizational strategy across digital platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Develop an overall marketing and sales strategy in collaboration with the Senior Director and Assistant General Manager.
  • Support cross-functional teams in implementing strategic digital initiatives, including the development of the Met App and website improvements.
  • Lead social media and email communications strategy to support audience growth and revenue goals.
  • Provide strategic direction on digital advertising campaigns across the organization.
  • Collaborate with the digital advertising agency to implement paid digital campaigns.
  • Identify digital content opportunities and recommend positioning strategies to engage existing and new audiences.
  • Maintain a data-informed approach to content strategy for metopera.org, collaborating on website maintenance and SEO.
  • Create digital marketing plans and timelines that align with institutional objectives.
  • Partner with various departments to support online programmatic developments and enhance in-person events.
  • Shape the organization’s broader digital strategy in partnership with Editorial, Media, and Marketing teams.
  • Oversee the Digital Content and Engagement team to manage daily operations, including social media and email activities.
  • Set analytics benchmarks and goals using data tools, and compile reports on web and email analytics.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience in marketing/advertising, with exposure to not-for-profit management being beneficial.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Superior writing and editing abilities.
  • Experience working with a CRM application, ideally Tessitura.
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and internet research.
  • Demonstrated interest in the arts, with knowledge of opera being a plus.
  • Ability to multi-task and be flexible in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.
