About the position

The Director of the Dyer Arts Center & Advancement for Deaf Culture is responsible for leading fundraising efforts, cultivating donor relationships, and executing outreach activities that promote Deaf culture. This role involves strategic planning and collaboration with various stakeholders to enhance the visibility of the Dyer Arts Center and engage diverse audiences, particularly within the Deaf community. The Director will also oversee the operations of the center, ensuring it meets the needs of its collections and community engagement goals.

Responsibilities

  • Cultivate and solicit support from individual, corporate, and foundation donors.
  • Pursue grant opportunities through federal and state agencies.
  • Plan and execute Deaf-culture related outreach activities to engage alumni, parents, and students.
  • Pursue strategic collaborations with arts and cultural organizations to increase NTID visibility.
  • Develop the vision and strategic plan for the Dyer Arts Center, aligning it with RIT/NTID goals.
  • Work collaboratively with the Dyer Arts Center's Assistant Director and Collections Assistant.
  • Lead efforts of the Dyer Arts Center Advisory Group to ensure proper storage and preservation of the Dyer collection.
  • Ensure the Dyer Arts Center has the necessary equipment and financial resources.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Museum Studies, Hospitality, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 6 years' experience in private fundraising, arts organization management, higher education, or hospitality management.
  • Strong community outreach experience.
  • Direct experience with advisory board management.
  • Experience with museum operations.
  • Sophisticated communication skills, both written and face-to-face.
  • Grant writing experience and fundraising experience with corporate, foundation, and individual donors.
  • Experience with Deaf Culture and ability to communicate in American Sign Language or willingness to learn.
  • Ability to work effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with Advance software or other CRM database systems.

Nice-to-haves

  • Advanced degree in Museum Studies, Hospitality, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in customer service.
  • Experience with events management systems.
  • High degree of energy and flexibility.
  • Advanced proficiency in American Sign Language.
