About the position

The Director of Employee and Labor Relations at Rochester Regional Health is responsible for fostering trusted relationships within the HR Strategy and Operations team, leadership, and legal departments. This role involves overseeing the administration of the Employee and Labor Relations team, providing guidance on employment law, labor relations, and performance management, while ensuring compliance with policies and regulations. The Director will also collaborate with various divisions to implement HR strategies that align with business objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts and oversees investigations of highly complex and sensitive HR issues, including conducting interviews and composing investigation reports.
  • Proposes remedial action based on investigation findings, recommending appropriate actions to correct concerns.
  • Consults and collaborates with Employee and Labor Relations, Legal, Risk, and/or Privacy on complex investigations.
  • Advises leadership on performance management and development goals for team members.
  • Provides oversight to the Employee and Labor Relations team in conducting investigations.
  • Analyzes casework trends to produce strategic recommendations to proactively address systemic issues.
  • Fosters a positive work environment and facilitates discussions or provides consistent advice.
  • Escalates issues to the Vice President of Employee and Labor Relations with recommendations as appropriate.
  • Applies a continuous improvement mindset among the Employee and Labor Relations team.
  • Leads projects and programs of work, including maintaining policies and preparing data for presentations and reports.
  • Establishes reporting for various data sources related to Employee Relations metrics.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert on employment laws and applies information to team member relation matters.
  • Assists HR Strategy team members with strategic and tactical implementation of HR initiatives.
  • Coaches business leaders to identify gaps and build skills to support a culture of engagement.
  • Partners with business leaders to utilize organizational data to identify and respond to talent challenges.
  • Monitors and measures outcomes of implemented strategies.
  • Works closely with leaders to improve team member engagement and retention.
  • Provides guidance and interpretation of HR policies to leaders and team members.
  • Partners with COEs to create solutions for human resource needs.
  • Leads the implementation of system-level HR initiatives in the assigned business.
  • Provides proactive coaching to leaders to increase organizational effectiveness.
  • Assesses talent needs and develops strategies to attract and develop future leaders.
  • Utilizes data to analyze trends and develop solutions, programs, and policies.
  • Identifies training needs and designs training/development programs.
  • Provides strategy advice to business leaders in planning and leading change processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required; Human Resources preferred.
  • PHR/SPHR or a similarly recognized certification related to Human Resources preferred.
  • Five years of progressive experience in Human Resources, including at least two years of supervisory experience in employee relations or labor relations.
  • Knowledge of employment and labor law, and experience with progressive employment best practices.
  • Advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills.
  • Effective relationship building skills.
  • Demonstration of leadership competencies.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary range of $110,000.00 - $175,000.00 based on experience and qualifications.
