About the position

The Director of Engineering at Panasonic Avionics Corporation is responsible for leading the planning and execution of software development, ensuring alignment with hardware engineering and product development. This role involves managing budgets, establishing work priorities, and fostering a culture of innovation and quality within the software development teams. The director will also participate in strategic business planning and policy development, while mentoring future leaders and driving organizational transformation to meet business goals.

Responsibilities

  • Direct the planning and execution of software development including research, design, and development of computer software systems.
  • Assign projects, establish/monitor work priorities and schedules.
  • Ensure overall budgets, schedules, and performance standards are realistically set and attained.
  • Own the quality for software features and fixes.
  • Drive a culture that creates a safe environment for engineers to thrive and develop talent.
  • Participate in developing and owning the implementation of strategic business plans.
  • Establish software development strategy and vision and create a culture of practical execution.
  • Manage budget planning and oversight for all software development teams.
  • Keep up to date on changes that may impact development efforts and adapt strategies accordingly.
  • Act as a mentor for other technical leaders and establish a strong bench of future leaders.
  • Recruit, develop, and partner with team members to build a pipeline of top talent.
  • Develop, modify and execute company policies affecting operations.
  • Direct activities through subordinate managers regarding costs, scheduling, and staffing.
  • Select and monitor vendor support for departments to ensure state-of-the-art applications and equipment.
  • Foster a work environment that is innovative and delivers high-quality software products.
  • Interface with other business units to establish common tools, workflows, and standards.

Requirements

  • BS in Engineering required.
  • 10 years of software engineering experience.
  • 5 years of management experience, directly supervising and mentoring managers.
  • Proven ability to drive organizational transformation to support business strategy.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver quality products on time to customers.
  • Hands-on experience with modern technologies, frameworks, and design and architecture patterns.
  • Outstanding communication skills and ability to develop and deliver complex presentations for senior management.
  • Proficient with mainstream PC desktop applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, VISIO, Project).
  • Demonstrate a strong orientation for developing products from the user's perspective.

  • Agile software development and DevOps skills preferred.
  • Industry experience a plus.
