About the position

The Director of Engineering at Panasonic Avionics Corporation is responsible for leading the planning and execution of software development projects, ensuring alignment with hardware engineering and product development. This role involves managing budgets, schedules, and performance standards while fostering a culture of innovation and talent development within the engineering team. The director will also participate in strategic business planning and policy development, driving continuous improvement and best practices in software development.

Responsibilities

  • Direct the planning and execution of Software Development including research, design, and development of computer software systems.
  • Assign projects, establish/monitor work priorities and schedules.
  • Ensure overall budgets, schedules, and performance standards are realistically set and attained.
  • Own the quality for software features and fixes.
  • Drive the culture in the organization to create a safe environment for engineers.
  • Participate with senior management in developing and implementing strategic business plans.
  • Research, evaluate, and implement new software technologies, processes, and workflows for productivity gains.
  • Lead continuous improvement efforts within software development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering required.
  • 10 years of software engineering experience.
  • 5 years of management experience, directly supervising and mentoring managers.
  • Proven ability to drive organizational transformation to support business strategy.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver quality products on time to customers.
  • Hands-on experience with modern technologies, frameworks, and design and architecture patterns.
  • Outstanding communication skills and ability to develop and deliver complex business and technical presentations.

Nice-to-haves

  • Agile software development and DevOps skills preferred.
  • Proficient with mainstream PC desktop applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, VISIO, Project).
  • Industry experience a plus.
