About the position

The Director of Environmental Compliance at GAF is responsible for establishing, implementing, and overseeing corporate environmental programs and ensuring compliance with government regulations. This role involves driving environmental strategy across all locations, collaborating with site EHS staff, and managing direct reports and contract personnel. The position emphasizes the importance of environmental excellence and innovation in practices to protect the community and the environment.

Responsibilities

  • Create a future-state vision for environmental excellence and a well-defined, multi-phased execution strategy.
  • Oversee all aspects of the company's environmental initiatives, collaborating with third-party vendors and environmental counsel.
  • Provide technical expertise and leadership to implement programs related to remediation, wastewater, regulated waste, SPCC, air emissions, and sustainability strategies.
  • Evaluate and interpret federal and state environmental regulations as they apply to operations.
  • Partner across functions to ensure systems meet regulatory and stakeholder expectations.
  • Evaluate and recommend improvements for air pollution control technology.
  • Prepare permit applications and air emission calculations.
  • Perform calculations for reporting, permit applications, and compliance requirements.
  • Serve as a resource to compliance, engineering, and operations staff.
  • Ensure environmental compliance at new and existing facilities by working with project teams and plant personnel.
  • Monitor emerging trends in environmental programs and regulations, developing strategies for preparedness.
  • Train, mentor, and develop EHS resources and leadership regarding environmental programs and risks.
  • Participate in incident investigations to identify root causes and corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with Senior Leadership on potential acquisitions.
  • Liaise with internal and external counsel on environmental projects and regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental, Civil, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering is required.
  • Post graduate degree preferred.
  • Professional Engineer certification preferred.
  • 15+ years of environmental management experience, with 10+ years in management roles.
  • Ability to travel overnight up to 50%.
  • Strong problem-solving skills using standard engineering/scientific methods.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills for building relationships with stakeholders.
  • Strong strategic thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • High work ethic and commitment to company success.
  • Excellent organizational, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated flexibility and adaptability to change.
  • Ability to motivate teams and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Google Suite Office.
