About the position

The Director of Environmental Compliance at GAF is responsible for establishing, implementing, and overseeing corporate environmental programs and ensuring compliance with government regulations. This role involves driving the strategy for environmental practices across all locations, providing technical expertise, and collaborating with various teams to support plant operations. The position requires strong leadership skills and the ability to manage multiple projects while fostering a culture of environmental excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Create a future-state vision for environmental excellence and a well-defined, multi-phased execution strategy.
  • Oversee all aspects of the company's environmental initiatives, working alongside third-party vendors and environmental counsel.
  • Provide technical expertise, guidance, and leadership to implement applicable environmental programs.
  • Evaluate and interpret federal and state environmental regulations as they apply to operations.
  • Partner across functions to ensure robust systems for regulatory compliance.
  • Evaluate and recommend options to improve air pollution control technology.
  • Prepare permit applications and air emission calculations.
  • Perform calculations to support reporting and compliance requirements.
  • Serve as a resource to compliance, engineering, and operations staff.
  • Ensure environmental compliance at new and existing facilities.
  • Monitor emerging trends in environmental programs and regulations.
  • Train, mentor, and develop EHS resources and leadership regarding environmental programs.
  • Participate in incident investigations as a subject matter expert.
  • Partner with Senior Leadership on potential acquisitions.
  • Liaise with internal and external counsel on environmental projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental, Civil, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering is required.
  • Post graduate degree preferred.
  • Professional Engineer certification preferred.
  • 15+ years of environmental management experience, with 10+ years in management roles.
  • Ability to travel overnight up to 50%.
  • Strong problem-solving skills using standard engineering/scientific methods.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills for building relationships with stakeholders.
  • Strong strategic thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • High level of work ethic and commitment to company success.
  • Excellent organizational, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated openness to change and flexibility.
  • Ability to motivate teams and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Google Suite Office.
