About the position

The Director of Environmental Compliance at GAF is responsible for establishing, implementing, and overseeing corporate environmental programs and ensuring compliance with government regulations. This role involves driving environmental strategies across all locations, providing technical expertise, and collaborating with various stakeholders to achieve environmental excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Create a future-state vision for environmental excellence and a well-defined, multi-phased execution strategy.
  • Oversee all aspects of the company's environmental initiatives, working alongside third-party vendors and environmental counsel.
  • Provide technical expertise, guidance, and leadership to implement applicable programs such as remediation, wastewater, and air emissions.
  • Evaluate and interpret federal and state environmental regulations as they apply to operations.
  • Partner across functions to ensure robust systems are in place for regulatory compliance.
  • Evaluate and recommend options to improve air pollution control technology.
  • Prepare permit applications and air emission calculations.
  • Perform calculations to support reporting and compliance requirements.
  • Serve as a resource to compliance, engineering, and operations staff.
  • Monitor and understand emerging trends in environmental programs and regulations.
  • Train, mentor, and develop EHS resources and leadership regarding environmental programs.
  • Participate in incident investigations as a subject matter expert.
  • Liaise with internal and external counsel on environmental projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental, Civil, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering is required.
  • Postgraduate degree preferred.
  • Professional Engineer certification preferred.
  • 15+ years of environmental management experience, with 10+ years in management roles.
  • Ability to travel overnight up to 50%.
  • Strong problem-solving skills using standard engineering/scientific methods.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills for building relationships with stakeholders.
  • Strong strategic thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent organizational, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to motivate teams and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Google Suite Office.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in environmental sustainability strategies.
  • Knowledge of air emissions and chemical inventories.
