About the position

The Director of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) at Sabre Industries is responsible for overseeing the environmental, safety, and health programs within the Utility division. This leadership role focuses on improving the safety culture, implementing strategic initiatives, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations to create an incident-free workplace. The position requires collaboration with various departments and a commitment to fostering a culture of safety and environmental stewardship.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and provide oversight for environmental, safety, and health programs in the Utility division.
  • Work closely with the VP/GM of Utility to enhance the safety culture.
  • Identify and implement strategic improvements within the EHS department and production operations.
  • Establish a visible presence in the manufacturing environment to coach and mentor staff on safety practices.
  • Develop and drive accountability for EHS initiatives and programs within the Utility Division.
  • Coordinate with the Corporate EHS Director to ensure consistency with company policies.
  • Manage incidents and lead investigations into safety violations and unsafe conditions.
  • Prepare and analyze safety statistics and trend reports, addressing negative trends promptly.
  • Lead and develop a diverse EHS team, promoting talent and accountability.
  • Ensure completion of site inspections, safety audits, and employee observations.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources to implement effective safety training programs for new hires and ongoing training.
  • Work with finance risk teams to prepare for audits and ensure compliance with policies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in safety & environmental management or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years of EHS leadership experience.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification or equivalent.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills.
  • Subject matter expert in EHS management.
  • Demonstrated experience in safety culture change and strategic EHS management.
  • Ability to communicate and influence effectively at all organizational levels.
  • Advanced knowledge in Behavior Based Programs, Incident Investigation, and Continuous Improvement Methods.
  • Experience with EPA and OSHA compliance and state regulatory agencies.
  • Strong ability to conduct training at all organizational levels.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in multi-site manufacturing environments.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001, NFPA fire regulations.
