About the position

The Director of Epidemiology for Bacterial Vaccines at GSK will lead the epidemiological strategy and studies necessary for the development and registration of vaccines. This role involves providing scientific leadership, ensuring high-quality epidemiological data, and collaborating with various stakeholders to support vaccine development from early discovery to lifecycle management.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and expand an epidemiology plan aligned to the vaccine development strategy.
  • Improve disease understanding relevant to vaccine development, including incidence, prevalence, risk factors, and outcome measures.
  • Support and advise on Real World Evidence strategies.
  • Contribute to medication safety evaluation by providing background event rates and synthesizing existing evidence.
  • Propose and lead post-marketing activities, including risk evaluation and epidemiology studies for safety surveillance.
  • Critically appraise existing epidemiology evidence and create new evidence through research plans and healthcare database analysis.
  • Develop strong partnerships with internal stakeholders across clinical, safety, and regulatory teams.
  • Plan resource allocation for multiple research projects and meet project timelines.
  • Identify innovative and cost-effective methods for conducting epidemiologic studies.
  • Negotiate internal funding for projects and develop research plans with external collaborators.
  • Communicate study findings to internal and external audiences effectively.
  • Input into regulatory submission documents and represent the function to regulatory agencies.
  • Present epidemiology findings to regulatory agencies and other external authorities.
  • Extend a track record of external publications in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Strengthen the position of the Epidemiology group as a leader in bacterial vaccines research.

Requirements

  • Doctoral degree (PhD, ScD, or DrPH) in epidemiology or a relevant discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience in Epidemiology within a pharmaceutical company.

Nice-to-haves

  • Clinical degree (e.g., in medicine, pharmacy, nursing) and a master's degree in Epidemiology with at least 5 years of experience in pharmaco-epidemiologic research in a vaccine development environment.
  • Expertise in infectious disease epidemiology, particularly invasive meningitis disease caused by Neisseria meningitidis.
  • Good knowledge of nasopharyngeal bacterial carriage and antimicrobial resistance towards bacterial infections.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and influence decisions in a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Broad experience in collaborating with research partners.
  • Record of high-quality, peer-reviewed epidemiology publications.
