About the position

The Director of Facilities Planning & Construction at the University of Miami is responsible for managing space and providing senior-level planning, building analysis, and project forecasting related to design, development, and construction. This role involves collaboration with facilities and construction managers, as well as department leaders, to optimize space planning, renovations, and building operations.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze spatial requirements and develop space planning and furniture layouts.
  • Manage day-to-day activities related to facilities operations and construction.
  • Advise leadership on interior design factors such as space planning and layout.
  • Formulate design plans and estimates along with project timelines.
  • Coordinate with project managers and faculty to determine planning factors.
  • Prepare analytical reports for current and future space utilization.
  • Develop comprehensive project reports for space planning objectives.
  • Maintain up-to-date data on all projects and update floor plans.
  • Prepare and present space documentation and reports to management.
  • Liaise with senior management to ensure efficient resource use and conduct design studies.
  • Manage overall project budgets including construction and operational costs.
  • Ensure projects meet federal compliance and zoning ordinances.
  • Review cost estimates and conduct cost-benefit analysis for projects.
  • Act as the primary contact among project managers, architects, and vendors.
  • Perform on-site surveys and building audits.
  • Manage the annual review process of Sylvester space.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Architecture, Planning, or related field.
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience.
  • Three to five years of experience in a health care setting or academia preferred.
  • Ability to coordinate and prioritize multiple tasks and projects.
  • Excellent written and verbal English skills.

Nice-to-haves
