About the position

The Director of Finance at Lutheran Services Florida is responsible for overseeing all financial activities related to the Head Start/Early Head Start/VPK programs. This role involves strategic financial planning, budget preparation, compliance with federal regulations, and providing financial guidance to management. The Director will also participate in quality assurance efforts and ensure accurate financial reporting to support the organization's mission of serving children and families in need.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and present monthly financial statements and projections for HS/EHS programs.
  • Analyze and monitor spending across HS/EHS programs, identifying potential issues and collaborating with program directors.
  • Develop and educate managers on financial planning and monitoring skills.
  • Ensure compliance with US GAAP accounting principles and federal regulations for non-profit organizations.
  • Calculate the impact of proposed initiatives and expenditures on the organization.
  • Conduct internal reviews of financial policies and procedures, comparing with best practices.
  • Design and maintain a realistic budgeting process for HS/EHS programs.
  • Provide user-friendly financial management reporting tools for planning and tracking budgets.
  • Prepare required HHS reports and approve accounts payable postings for weekly check runs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in accounting, business, fiscal management, or related field.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) with an active license preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in a non-profit environment.
  • Strong understanding of federal contracts, grants management, and regulations governing non-profits.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in Head Start and/or Early Head Start programs.
  • Knowledge of OMB's 2 CFR 200 Super Circular regulations.
