About the position

The Director, Finance actively partners with Company Commercial Leadership of applicable business units within the North American Region to continuously provide critical information, unbiased facts, risks and opportunities, and ownership/championing of action planning to enhance growth. This role is pivotal in supporting the planning, budgeting, and actual reporting processes for the North American Commercial Region. The Director relentlessly provides controllership guidance to ensure absolute financial integrity and takes a broad perspective to identify innovative solutions to complex business issues. As a recognized expert, the Director leads functional teams and directs the activities of staff to ensure the completion of tasks and attainment of departmental goals. In this position, the Director will have full P&L responsibility for lines of business and functional departments/costs. They will develop and implement the annual operating plan and monthly forecasts to accurately reflect current expectations of the business. The Director will lead the North American Commercial Finance team in developing strong relationships with business leaders and SBU leads to set actions to achieve the annual operating plan. They will drive forecast updates, liaise with Leadership on risks and opportunities, and develop financial presentation packages for review with Commercial Leadership and various business partners on a periodic basis. The Director will prepare and review monthly results for assigned business units and conduct ad hoc analysis to provide recommendations aimed at increasing profitability through revenue generation, margin expansion, and/or cost control. They will pulse sales, margin, mix, cost, headcount, and other metrics to identify trends and issues, and prepare ongoing reviews of the profitability of customers, categories, and/or products. Additionally, the Director will review and develop the financial justification for various capital or operating investments, ensuring that business activities and processes comply with applicable local laws and/or US GAAP. They will lead key initiatives such as cost restructuring and address financial/reporting issues raised by the business area or operating team. Finally, the Director will be responsible for the management of the North American Commercial Finance team, including prioritization and resource management, fostering a strong and highly engaged culture, and attracting, developing, and retaining talent.

Responsibilities

  • Full P&L responsibility for lines of business and functional departments/costs.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in accounting, finance, or closely related field from an accredited college or university; Graduate degree preferred
  • 10+ years experience in finance and/or accounting related fields
  • 5 years leadership experience
  • Six Sigma or Lean training helpful, but not required
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, analytical skills
  • Demonstrated leadership, and ability to work in a matrixed and collaborative environment
  • Ability to work with executives, managers and owners in developing operating plans and maintaining regular financial reports; ability to modify or create reporting processes to ensure efficient operations and timely reporting
  • Independent, self-starter, highly motivated
  • Contract negotiation experience
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, SAP, AFO (or similar platform)
  • Experience with Business Intelligence Tools (Tableau, QlikView, Alteryx)
