About the position

The Director, Finance and Operations at the New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) is a pivotal role within the School of Management, responsible for overseeing all financial operations and ensuring compliance with institutional policies. This position serves as the primary budget officer, reporting directly to the Dean of the School of Management. The Director will provide comprehensive fiscal support, which includes budget planning, purchasing, forecasting, financial modeling, variance analysis, and reporting. As a member of the Deans' Cabinet, the Director plays a crucial role in supporting financial operations and strategic decision-making through detailed financial analysis and reporting. The Director will manage all financial transactions, ensuring accuracy and compliance with NYIT regulations. This includes overseeing general accounting, procurement, accounts payable, capital accounting, and payroll. The role requires the management of monthly and year-end closing processes, including variance analysis and the preparation of internal financial reports. The Director will also lead the development of the School of Management's annual budget and multi-year financial planning, preparing and presenting financial reports and analyses as needed. In addition to financial responsibilities, the Director will serve as the point person for operational and administrative support, addressing issues related to space planning, logistics, and facility maintenance. The role also involves coordinating human resource actions and implementing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) policies within the School of Management. The Director will be expected to work collaboratively with various stakeholders, including faculty, staff, and external partners, and may require occasional inter-campus travel. This position is based at either the Old Westbury or New York City campus and may involve some weekend and evening work for events. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in financial services or higher education, with a focus on data modeling and financial analytics.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and ensure execution of all financial transactions including general accounting, procurement, accounts payable, capital accounting, and payroll.
  • Oversee monthly and year-end closing processes, including variance analysis and internal financial reports.
  • Lead the development of the School of Management's annual budget and multi-year financial planning.
  • Prepare and present financial reports and written analysis as needed.
  • Run extensive financial models and analytics on various business scenarios for new and existing programs.
  • Conduct annual, 3-year, and 5-year enrollment and budget forecast models.
  • Ensure compliance with NYIT policies and procedures related to purchasing and requisitions.
  • Serve as the point person for all operations-related issues, space planning, logistics, and facility maintenance.
  • Coordinate human resource actions including new hire requests and job searches.
  • Implement appropriate DEI policies within the School of Management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, accounting, or related field is required.
  • MBA is preferred.
  • Minimum five years of experience in a financial services environment or higher education business office setting.
  • Knowledge and experience in data modeling, financial analytics, and forecasting.
  • Ability to articulate strategies and implement policy effectively.
  • Strong analytical skills to interpret financial data and prepare reports.
  • Excellent communication and professional leadership skills.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently in stressful situations.
  • Detail-oriented with strong customer service skills.
