About the position

The Director of Finance at CDM Smith is responsible for establishing strong relationships with senior executives to identify their financial needs and provide comprehensive business solutions. This role involves advising senior management on the financial implications of business activities, enhancing financial performance, and leading the unit in evaluating strategic financial objectives. The Director will manage financial forecasting, budgeting, and reporting processes while ensuring compliance with accounting principles and regulations. Additionally, this position includes overseeing staff performance and development, making it a key leadership role within the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with senior executives to identify their needs and seek business solutions.
  • Provide senior management with advice on the financial implications of business activities.
  • Make recommendations to strategically enhance financial performance and business opportunities.
  • Lead the unit in the continuous evaluation of short and long-term strategic financial objectives.
  • Manage processes for financial forecasting, budgets, and consolidation and reporting to the firm.
  • Evaluate and advise on the impact of long-range planning, introduction of new programs/strategies, and regulatory action.
  • Direct the development, implementation, and maintenance of a comprehensive cost structure for the unit.
  • Ensure effective internal controls are in place and compliance with GAAP and applicable laws for financial and tax reporting.
  • Manage the day-to-day activity of staff and provide feedback on performance issues and appraisals.
  • Manage the development and training of staff and approve paid time off (PTO) requests.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • 15 years of related experience, with at least 5 years in a management or leadership capacity.
  • Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.

Nice-to-haves

  • Advanced knowledge of GAAP, IFRS, SOX compliance, and SEC reporting.
  • Hands-on experience with various Enterprise Resource Planning systems.
  • Superior communication and presentation skills.
