About the position

The Director of Finance at CDM Smith is responsible for providing strategic financial leadership and guidance to senior management. This role involves establishing strong relationships with executives, advising on financial implications of business activities, and enhancing financial performance. The Director will manage financial forecasting, budgeting, and reporting processes while ensuring compliance with accounting principles and regulations. Additionally, the position includes overseeing staff development and performance management in a hybrid work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with senior executives to identify their needs and seek business solutions.
  • Provide senior management with advice on the financial implications of business activities.
  • Make recommendations to strategically enhance financial performance and business opportunities.
  • Lead the unit in evaluating short and long-term strategic financial objectives.
  • Manage processes for financial forecasting, budgets, and consolidation and reporting to the firm.
  • Evaluate and advise on the impact of long-range planning, new programs/strategies, and regulatory actions.
  • Direct the development, implementation, and maintenance of a comprehensive cost structure for the unit.
  • Ensure effective internal controls are in place and compliance with GAAP and applicable laws.
  • Manage the day-to-day activities of staff and provide feedback on performance issues.
  • Approve paid time off (PTO) requests and ensure adherence to human resources policies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • 15 years of related experience, with at least 5 years in a management or leadership capacity.
  • Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.

Nice-to-haves

  • Advanced knowledge of GAAP, IFRS, SOX compliance, and SEC reporting.
  • Hands-on experience with various Enterprise Resource Planning systems.
  • Superior communication and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability and executive presence.
