About the position

The Director of Finance Operations is responsible for managing and overseeing the financial operations of Stronger Communities New York (SCNY), which supports both The House of the Good Shepherd and Together for Youth. This role involves ensuring compliance with accounting principles, managing financial activities, and leading a team to achieve financial goals while safeguarding assets and maintaining accurate records.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee finance operations including general ledger, accounts payable, and payroll.
  • Assist with planning, implementing, managing, and controlling the organization's financial operations.
  • Establish and implement annual financial goals; safeguard assets and ensure accurate and timely recording of all transactions.
  • Administer, monitor, and review all financial activities to ensure compliance with accounting principles and agency policies.
  • Supervise direct reports to foster skill development and professional growth; make recommendations for personnel actions.
  • Plan, recommend, implement, and direct productivity improvement and cost-saving projects.
  • Identify and maximize revenue sources and funding streams, as well as expenditure savings opportunities.
  • Ensure accurate recording of revenue and expenses for reporting, funding, and auditing purposes.
  • Assist with internal/external audits and oversee monthly cash reconciliation processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting and 1-3 years of accounting experience.
  • An associate degree in accounting with at least 10 years of experience in the accounting field will be considered.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of accounting and related functions (AP, AR, Fixed Assets).
  • Ability to prioritize, multitask, and meet deadlines.
  • Experience with system development and evaluation.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
