About the position

The Director, Finance Operations will play a pivotal role in supporting Catalyst Physician Group and its external clients through various financial initiatives, all while working under the guidance of the CFO. In this capacity, the Director will oversee the daily operations of the physician practice finance team, ensuring that all financial activities are managed effectively. This includes assisting with the development of physician compensation models, shaping the annual budget process, and ensuring the timely preparation and distribution of financial reports. The Director will also be responsible for creating standardized reports and dashboards that communicate practice performance to operational leaders and stakeholders, including physicians. Collaboration with the Operations team will be crucial to provide financial oversight and guidance, as well as evaluating key performance metrics to support various quality programs and initiatives. The role requires a proactive approach to streamline workflows and drive operational excellence, while also providing support for internal strategic initiatives. The Director will manage a team of 3 to 5 finance staff, providing oversight on deliverables, coaching, and performance assessments. This position also involves reviewing and interpreting financial statements, approving financial processes, and serving as a key liaison with physician and operational leadership. Additionally, the Director will provide transactional advisory services for mergers and acquisitions and stay informed on healthcare topics that may impact the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and direct activities of 3 - 5 finance staff, providing oversight on deliverables, review of complex financial information and reports, coaching, training and performance assessments.
  • Assist with physician compensation models including monthly production and design.
  • Inform and shape the annual budget process.
  • Oversee accurate and timely preparation, distribution and presentation of financial reporting to physician practices.
  • Develop, implement, and deliver standardized reports, dashboards, executive-level summary reports and presentations to effectively communicate practice performance to operational leaders and stakeholders, including physicians.
  • Partner with Operations team members to provide financial oversight and guidance of physician practice financial functions.
  • Evaluate key performance metrics to support value-based contracts, quality measures, gap of care opportunities, patient access metrics, and other quality programs and initiatives.
  • Proactively streamline workflows, challenge the status quo, and drive team toward operational excellence and high practice satisfaction.
  • Provide broader support for other internal operational and strategic initiatives.
  • Create, review and present proposals for prospective practices.
  • Integrate and work across business units that impact finance including accounting, revenue cycle, EMR applications, procurement and operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Minimum of 8-11 years Industry and financial analysis experience
  • Minimum 4 years of management experience
  • Strong knowledge of excel & relational databases
  • Experience mentoring/coaching peers
  • Ability to work on multiple engagements simultaneously
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills; be comfortable interacting with multiple stakeholders at different levels
  • Working knowledge of accounting procedures and principles including accounts payable
  • Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process
  • Knowledge of medical reimbursement methodology and industry benchmark organizations such as MGMA
  • Knowledge of revenue cycle best practices and KPIs
