About the position

Kilpatrick, a large international law firm, is seeking a Director, Finance for our Finance Department in our Atlanta, Raleigh, Winston, or Washington DC office. This position will be part of our team of attorneys, paralegals, and support staff providing a high level of service to both internal and external clients. The Director, Finance is directly responsible for leadership and management of the day-to-day operation of the firm's finance functions including analytics, accounts payables, accounts receivable, general ledger, and all associated financial reporting, financial systems, and internal control procedures. This position is responsible for developing and implementing associated policy and procedures related to functional responsibilities. Serves as the representative for and the primary assistant to the Chief Financial Officer. In this role, you will manage and lead the finance team relating to the accomplishment of the firm's accounting function with responsibility for selection, counseling, training, professional development, performance, and related customer service to the firm. You will supervise managers/team members with associated responsibility to ensure internal coordination of efforts and procedures between functional responsibilities and workload distribution. Providing leadership and fostering open communication and participatory management will be key to ensuring the growth and development of the department and individuals within the department. You will also be responsible for monitoring and improving upon the overall department support level, developing, coordinating, disseminating, and ensuring compliance with applicable accounting policies and procedures throughout the firm. Additionally, you will oversee the review and control of routine and special financial reports, prepare and review information as required to support various firm review processes and management decisions, and provide guidance, advice, training, and support to the entire firm regarding accounting processes and procedures. This role requires a strong ability to interface with partners, associates, clients, vendors, directors, managers, and professional staff, ensuring that the finance department meets the needs of the firm effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and lead finance team relating to the accomplishment of the firm's accounting function.
  • Supervise managers/team members to ensure internal coordination of efforts and procedures.
  • Provide leadership and foster open communication and participatory management.
  • Monitor and improve overall department support level.
  • Develop, coordinate, disseminate, and ensure compliance with accounting policies and procedures.
  • Review and control routine and special financial reports.
  • Prepare and review information to support various firm review processes and management decisions.
  • Oversee and coordinate procedures for posting and reconciliation of financial accounts.
  • Ensure annual compliance with accepted accounting principles and preparation of financial statements.
  • Provide guidance, advice, training, and support regarding accounting processes and procedures.
  • Work directly with financial institutions regarding the firm's debt structure and credit compliance requirements.
  • Maintain liaison with key firm vendors and clients regarding account status.
  • Complete special projects as directed.

Requirements

  • Accounting or Finance related college degree
  • Certified Public Accountant
  • Master of Business Administration preferred
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience at a comparable level in a professional service environment
  • Minimum of 5 years in personnel management
  • Law firm experience preferred
  • Knowledge of 3E or Elite financial system
  • Ability to provide leadership and perform as a team leader
  • Ability to translate complex accounting transactions into standard business terms
  • Ability to integrate departmental needs with the needs of other departments
  • Ability to coordinate and manage multiple work tasks
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and delegate effectively
  • Ability to analyze, assess possible problems, prioritize concerns and make decisions
