About the position

The Director of Financial Operations at Cooper University Health Care will play a pivotal role in supporting the financial and operational management of Hospital Based Services, including Hospital Medicine, Pathology, Radiology, CUES, and Critical Care on the Camden Campus and offsite contracts. This position is designed to serve as a key resource for both Administrative and Physician Leadership, ensuring that financial strategies align with the overall goals of the organization. The Director will oversee a team of 3.0 FTEs in the Hospital Medicine and CUES billing team, with the Financial Manager of Hospital Medicine and Critical Care reporting directly to this role. In this capacity, the Director will be responsible for developing, recommending, and implementing strategies to proactively address financial issues and enhance financial results. This includes administrative oversight of capital and operating budget development, expense management, physician compensation and incentive plans, accounts payable, and ensuring compliance with coding and billing practices. The Director will also cultivate and maintain vendor relationships and explore new product opportunities to support the financial health of the Institute. Additionally, the Director will assist in maintaining high standards of excellence in education by supporting the financial management of educational programs, including those associated with the medical school, residency programs, and fellowship programs. The role will involve managing vendor contracts for Hospital Based Services, Critical Care, and CUES, which includes overseeing accounts receivable, reconciliation processes, and incentive payment processes. Collaboration is key in this role, as the Director will work closely with the Institute Executive Leadership to implement the strategic plan and ensure integration with the Organizational Strategic plan. The position requires strong interpersonal skills to foster collaborative relationships within a highly matrixed organization, as well as excellent written communication skills to effectively convey financial information and strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a key resource to Administrative and Physician Leadership for Finance & Revenue Cycle for Hospital Based Services.
  • Direct the Hospital Medicine and CUES billing team (3.0 FTEs).
  • Oversee the Financial Manager of Hospital Medicine and Critical Care.
  • Develop, recommend, and implement strategies to address financial issues proactively.
  • Manage capital and operating budget development and expense management.
  • Oversee physician compensation and incentive plans, accounts payable, and coding and billing compliance.
  • Cultivate and maintain vendor relationships and explore new products.
  • Support financial management of educational programs associated with the medical school, residency, and fellowship programs.
  • Manage vendor contracts for Hospital Based Services, Critical Care, and CUES, including accounts receivable and reconciliation processes.
  • Assist in implementing the strategic plan in coordination with Institute Executive Leadership.

Requirements

  • 2-5 years experience in financial/operational management and analysis of an academic practice plan at the administrative leadership level preferred.
  • Experience in physician practice management, compensation plans, revenue cycle, and budget.
  • Strong understanding of achieving results in a complex environment; ability to think critically and make decisions.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for developing collaborative relationships within a highly matrixed organization.
  • Excellent written communication skills.
  • Strong computer and IT system capabilities, particularly with MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Advanced knowledge of budgetary principles and practices, including developing capital/operational budgets and revenue cycle management.
  • Negotiation and financial analysis skills.
  • Ability to use and interpret industry benchmark data reports and surveys for operational analyses.
