About the position

The Director, Food Safety Programs at Schwan's Company is responsible for leading and providing technical expertise in the development and maintenance of effective Food Safety and Quality policies across all manufacturing and storage locations. This role involves strategic planning, collaboration with operations teams, and ensuring compliance with food safety regulations to foster a culture of food safety within the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Company Subject Matter Expert for Food Safety Programs including Environmental Monitoring, Finished Product Testing, and Ingredient Risk Assessment.
  • Provide leadership on food safety and regulatory compliance to ensure a food safety culture throughout the company.
  • Develop and articulate the CJ Schwan's Food Safety and Quality Framework to senior leaders and plant management.
  • Lead and execute food safety continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Provide strategic leadership on food safety risk management including risk assessments and communication.
  • Ensure all USDA and FDA food safety plans and prerequisite programs are effective and scientifically substantiated.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners to implement and improve Food Safety and Quality procedures, equipment, and metrics.
  • Develop technical expertise of relevant employees regarding Foreign Material Identification, Control, and Elimination.
  • Lead the Corporate FSQ audit team in conducting food safety and quality audits at all manufacturing facilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Food Science, Microbiology, or a related technical field.
  • Minimum of 8 years' experience with multi-site management of quality and food safety systems and programs.
  • Strong food safety and microbiology background.
  • High level of analytical thinking and communication skills.
  • Outstanding organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to travel 50%.
  • Knowledge of Food Safety Related regulations (USDA/FDA).
  • Knowledge of GFSI standards and expectations.
