About the position

The Director of Girl Scout Merchandise is responsible for leading the merchandising strategy, focusing on the development, buying, and production of merchandise for resale. This role is crucial for supporting the revenue objectives of Girl Scouts of the USA, overseeing key categories such as badges and uniforms, and ensuring alignment with the organization's overall strategy. The position requires strong leadership, vision, and innovation to guide the buying team in achieving strategic and revenue goals while adhering to established policies and financial controls.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a data-driven merchandising strategy that aligns with revenue and growth targets.
  • Create and lead seasonal merchandise plans to support key strategic initiatives and market trends.
  • Own the product development lifecycle, ensuring alignment on key milestones.
  • Collaborate with vendor partners to design compelling assortments that meet margin targets.
  • Oversee vendor management to ensure compliance with legal and ethical standards.
  • Analyze and present business performance data to guide strategies.
  • Work with the Inventory Manager to optimize inventory levels through effective forecasting.
  • Communicate product strategies and foster alignment across cross-functional teams.
  • Partner with e-commerce team to plan promotional strategies that drive revenue.
  • Identify new opportunities for product innovation by staying abreast of industry trends.
  • Collaborate closely with the Girl Scout Program team to ensure merchandise aligns with program goals.
  • Supervise and direct team members in accordance with GSUSA's personnel policies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or relevant experience.
  • Minimum of 10 years' experience in a corporate environment.
  • Minimum of 8 years' experience managing a Merchandising and Buying department.
  • Proven merchandising expertise and analytical skills with a focus on retail math and P&L responsibility.
  • Excellent negotiation skills and ability to cultivate vendor partnerships.
  • In-depth understanding of inventory management and data analysis.
  • Outstanding verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
