About the position

The Director, Global and Strategic HR Services at Johns Hopkins University serves as the internal HR consultant and primary point of contact for global HR matters. This role is responsible for overseeing the university's global HR policies, procedures, and operational structure, while also providing strategic HR services and consultation to various divisions. The position is integral to ensuring efficient HR service delivery and compliance with international employment laws.

Responsibilities

  • Consult and coordinate with departments hiring non-US employees for recruitment strategy and global mobility.
  • Facilitate hiring through third-party payrolling agencies as required by legal status in the country.
  • Ensure compliance of employment contracts with statutory requirements and advise on onboarding and offboarding processes.
  • Review and maintain country handbooks for accuracy and consistency.
  • Serve as a resource for employees on global HR policies and procedures.
  • Ensure efficient HR service delivery focused on employee experience and operational efficiency.
  • Collaborate with University leaders to implement and transform HR services effectively.
  • Act as the HR business partner to support operational goals within University Human Resources.
  • Serve as the Appeals Hearing leader for staff grievances regarding employment disciplinary actions.
  • Advise HR Directors on HR policies, onboarding, recruitment, and employee relations.
  • Identify employee relations interventions to strengthen communication and collaboration.
  • Investigate complex employee issues and provide advice on HR policies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Human Resources or related field.
  • Eight to ten years of experience in an HR function, preferably with global exposure.
  • PHR, GPHR, SHRM SCP or equivalent certification.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Project management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Knowledge of HR information systems, particularly SAP/SuccessFactors and Workday.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Understanding of global professional and academic frameworks, including legal entities and taxation.
  • Ability to address diverse audiences with international experience.
  • Strong analytical skills.
