About the position

The Director of Global Logistics at Akebia Therapeutics is a strategic and hands-on leadership role responsible for developing and executing logistics strategies that support the company's global commercial and clinical supply chains. This position focuses on optimizing logistics operations, managing vendor relationships, ensuring regulatory compliance, and driving continuous improvement across a complex international network.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement logistics strategies aligned with Akebia's business objectives for all commercial and clinical products.
  • Oversee international transportation, warehousing, and distribution to ensure efficient, timely delivery and cost-effective operations.
  • Manage relationships with third-party logistics providers and carriers, negotiating contracts and service level agreements for reliable logistics services.
  • Develop risk scorecards, identifying global supply chain risks and developing contingency plans to mitigate risks and ensure business continuity.
  • Work closely with CMC Manufacturing, Quality Assurance, Regulatory Affairs, Procurement, and Commercial Operations to integrate logistics activities and ensure compliance with international regulations.
  • Establish and use key performance indicators (KPIs) and analytics to monitor logistics performance, manage global inventory levels, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Implement logistics technology solutions to improve visibility and data management.
  • Develop strategies to reduce the environmental impact of logistics operations.
  • Lead and develop a high-performing logistics team, fostering collaboration and continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in global logistics and supply chain management, with 5+ years in a leadership role, preferably in the biopharmaceutical industry.

  • Strong knowledge of international logistics operations, including transportation, warehousing, and distribution.
  • Proven experience managing logistics for both clinical and commercial supply chains.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
