About the position

The Director of the Global Office in Washington, D.C. is responsible for managing IOM's representation towards U.S. institutions, overseeing fundraising, advocacy, and strategic partnerships. This role involves leading the implementation of IOM's strategic plan, ensuring compliance with U.S. contractual obligations, and developing capacity-building initiatives for IOM country offices. The Director will also represent IOM in various international forums and maintain high standards in project implementation funded by the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate the implementation of the IOM Strategic Plan with U.S. institutions.
  • Represent IOM towards the United States and provide strategic advice.
  • Guide IOM country offices in their advocacy and fundraising efforts with U.S. stakeholders.
  • Develop strategic partnerships with key U.S. stakeholders to enhance understanding of IOM's mandate.
  • Prepare documentation to support U.S. policy and decision-making processes.
  • Ensure timely sharing of information on engagement and fundraising opportunities with country offices.
  • Enable capacity building for IOM country representations on advocacy with U.S. delegations.
  • Direct operational, human resources, administrative, budgetary, and financial activities of the Global Office.
  • Provide strategic advice to maintain high standards in U.S.-funded project implementation.
  • Establish a knowledge management system for relationship management.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Political or Social Science, International Relations, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Fifteen years of relevant professional experience.
  • Extensive experience with the U.S. Congress and Appropriations Committees.
  • Experience in diplomacy, fundraising, and public relations.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading strategic implementation processes.
  • Ability to develop and manage high-performing diverse teams.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Strong liaison and negotiation skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Fluency in another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish) is an advantage.
