About the position

The Director, Global Policy and Multilateral Engagement is responsible for fostering relationships with multilateral and international organizations to advance Merck's policy and business objectives. This role involves leveraging a robust global network to address key industrial policy issues, particularly in the pharmaceutical sector, and requires a deep understanding of intellectual property rights, global trade, and innovation incentives. The Director will act as a subject matter expert, representing the company in international forums and contributing to the development of industry-wide agendas.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute multilateral policy strategy in areas such as intellectual property, trade, and innovation policy.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for the creation of tailored policy advocacy materials for multilateral audiences.
  • Generate and sustain relationships with technical experts in organizations like WTO, WIPO, and WHO to promote company objectives.
  • Represent Merck in engagements with multilateral organizations to advocate for policies that align with company goals.
  • Identify strategic engagement opportunities in policy areas aligned with business objectives and prepare briefing materials for senior leadership.
  • Monitor policy trends and shifts in multilateral sentiment regarding pharmaceutical industry concerns.

Requirements

  • Proven ability to maintain strong relationships with multilateral and international organizations.
  • Robust global and political network with an understanding of pharmaceutical policy issues.
  • Experience in developing and executing advocacy strategies for international organizations.
  • Ability to anticipate and react quickly to actions of international organizations that may impact company interests.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in the pharmaceutical industry or related fields.
  • Familiarity with global trade agreements and their implications for the pharmaceutical sector.
