About the position

The Director of Product Development at NYX Professional Makeup is a pivotal role that combines a passion for beauty with strategic oversight in product innovation. This position is designed for an individual who not only has a keen eye for color and aesthetics but also possesses a deep understanding of market trends and consumer preferences. The Director will lead the product development process from inception to launch, ensuring that all products meet the high standards of quality and creativity that NYX is known for. This role requires a blend of creative vision and operational excellence, as the Director will be responsible for managing the end-to-end product development process, collaborating with various departments to ensure seamless execution of product launches. In this role, the Director will oversee a small team, providing mentorship and guidance to Product Development Managers. They will be instrumental in fostering a collaborative environment, ensuring that communication flows smoothly between the Product Development team and other departments, particularly Marketing. The Director will also be responsible for maintaining a comprehensive understanding of the product portfolio, identifying opportunities for new product launches, and managing existing product extensions. This includes analyzing market trends, consumer feedback, and sales data to inform product strategy and development. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in project management and product development within the beauty or consumer packaged goods industry. They will be adept at problem-solving and critical thinking, with the ability to anticipate challenges and develop strategies to overcome them. The Director will also play a key role in building relationships with vendors and partners to scout for new innovations and cost efficiencies, ensuring that NYX remains at the forefront of the beauty industry.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the end-to-end product development process for new launches and existing product extensions.
  • Collaborate with all departments involved to ensure operational excellence for new products and changes to existing products.
  • Oversee the overall costing process and seasonal milestones for the category from kickoff to end of each season's launches.
  • Manage ways of working and processes with the Development and Operations team, ensuring effective communication and collaboration.
  • Serve as the key point of contact for current panier issues and day-to-day operations, troubleshooting and decision-making as needed.
  • Partner with AVP PD to identify new innovations, formulas, and technologies for future developments.
  • Collaborate with Marketing on strategy and concept ideation for product launches.
  • Build and maintain relationships with vendors to scout for new innovations and cost efficiencies.
  • Conduct comprehensive analysis on category and segments to determine product trends and opportunities.
  • Present category launch plans to management, retailers, and internal stakeholders.
  • Attend key industry meetings and events as needed to represent the brand and gather insights.
  • Ensure smooth collaboration between Operational and Product Development teams, setting a clear vision for ways of working.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of related business experience in product development or project management.
  • In-depth knowledge of the product development process and technical understanding of formulas and shades.
  • Experience in the consumer packaged goods or beauty industry is preferred.
  • Strong collaborative leadership skills and the ability to manage a team effectively.
  • Excellent project management skills with a focus on prioritization and organization.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, both written and oral, to communicate effectively with various stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated competencies in leadership, entrepreneurial management, and innovation.
