About the position

The Director of Health Information Management is responsible for overseeing the development, implementation, and maintenance of a system-wide data quality management plan. This role focuses on improving the quality, completeness, and accuracy of documentation and coding within medical records across multiple sites. The director ensures compliance with federal and state regulations, manages electronic medical records, and supports the revenue cycle while promoting timely and accurate coding. Key functions include education, training, quality audits, and leveraging project management skills to enhance processes and compliance in health information management.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a system-wide data quality management plan.
  • Facilitate improvement in the quality, completeness, and accuracy of medical record documentation and coding.
  • Maintain electronic medical records and ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Develop and maintain policies and procedures to support quality of care and revenue cycle.
  • Oversee inpatient and outpatient coding and HIM operations.
  • Conduct education and training for staff on coding and clinical documentation improvement.
  • Perform quality audits to ensure compliance and accuracy in documentation and coding.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
  • RHIA certification required.
  • Minimum of five years of hospital HIM leadership experience required.
  • Experience with inpatient, outpatient, and ambulatory coding preferred.
  • Knowledge of ICD coding and third-party payer guidelines including CMS compliance.
  • Experience with Epic is desired.
  • Demonstrated experience in mentoring staff.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience managing teams in multiple locations preferred.
  • Flexibility to travel regularly to various worksites.

Benefits

  • Full-time position with a competitive salary range of $114,211.50 - $171,307.50 per year.
  • Exempt from overtime, with a standard work schedule of Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 4 PM.
