About The Position

The Director of Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) at Carlile Transportation Systems is responsible for overseeing the development, implementation, and monitoring of Occupational Safety and Health Programs across multiple terminal locations. This role serves as the principal representative for regulatory inspections and ensures compliance with HSSE policies and procedures. The director will lead accident investigations, manage safety audits, and maintain safety documentation while collaborating with various stakeholders to promote a safe working environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in safety or business administration or 10 years of experience in Safety Management.
  • National Safety Certification is preferred.
  • Valid driver's license is required.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) designation preferred.
  • Strong verbal, written, and listening communication skills.
  • Proven ability to multi-task and work under pressure while meeting deadlines.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and ability to work independently.
  • Advanced knowledge of DOT, OSHA, EPA, and DOD regulations.
  • Proficiency in understanding P&L statements and financial reporting.
  • Strong project management skills with demonstrated project implementation success.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of the Alaska trucking industry is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Operate safely and in compliance with all established HSSE policies and procedures.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor Occupational Safety and Health Programs for multiple terminal locations.
  • Act as the principal company representative for all regulatory inspections and provide technical guidance for HSSE compliance.
  • Perform Root Cause Accident Investigations and recommend appropriate remedial actions.
  • Ensure safe handling and documentation of hazardous materials and waste.
  • Develop and train on OSHA, DOT, EPA, and DOD programs across multiple states.
  • Chair monthly Safety committee meetings and maintain minutes.
  • Conduct on-site visits to evaluate and audit HSE policies and procedures.
  • Perform inspections of work sites for compliance with OSHA standards.
  • Review incident investigation reports and recommend corrective actions.
  • Manage PPE/work uniform program and oversee internal audits.
  • Prepare annual OSHA logs and ensure compliance with reporting requirements.
  • Collaborate with Risk Management on Workers Compensation claims and safety statistics.
