About the position
The Director of Health Information Management (HIM) and Information Security is responsible for the strategic planning, implementation, and management of health information services and information security functions within a small, rural community hospital. This role involves collaboration with management, providers, staff, and patients to optimize processes related to document imaging, chart analysis, document storage, and the release of information. The Director ensures compliance with federal and state laws, including HIPAA and HITECH, while providing strategic advice on information security needs and risks, and working closely with the Chief Information Officer and HIPAA Privacy Officer to operationalize security measures and maintain regulatory standards.
Responsibilities
- Strategic planning and management of health information services and information security functions.
- Collaborate with management, providers, staff, and patients to optimize document imaging and chart analysis processes.
- Ensure compliance with federal and state laws, including HIPAA and HITECH.
- Provide strategic advice on information security needs and risks.
- Communicate with the Chief Legal Officer regarding information security governance, risk, and compliance recommendations.
- Work closely with the Chief Information Officer and HIPAA Privacy Officer to operationalize information security measures and controls.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Health Information Management, Health Informatics, Information Security or related field.
- 7 years of Health Information Management experience or related healthcare experience preferred.
- 2 years working in an information security-related role.
- Experience with healthcare software applications.
- Prior experience in a leadership role.
- Specialty Certification in one or more areas such as RHIA, CHPS, CISSP, CISM, or CIPP.
Nice-to-haves
- Master's Degree in a related field.
